St Marys Ladies Hosted a local derby match vs Gordano and despite not having the talents of Kirsty Fido and Laura Rugman ran in a 60 pts to nil victory.
Marys prepared well and started the better of the 2 sides, marys opted for end and received the kick off. Within minutes we had our first try. Clean rucks enabled the backs to hit hard lines and the forwards to create miss matches.
The away side never let their heads lower and hit marys with a range of hard tackles including some great cover work by the 9 and 7, although the tackles were good Marys must be frustrated they did not put more of the 2v1’s away.
The game could of slipped away into a individual battle but Marys held their structure and kept their heads cool. The Ref called time 10mins early as Gordano's Injuries list grew. All in all still polishing to be done on certain areas but a great team performance.
Particular mentions go to our new players Billi Staite scoring 2 tries making it 3 from 2 games, Miriam Soteriou continuing her scoring record, Beki Evans came off the bench and made the impact the marys pack was missing turning scrum after scrum over, Amber Daum scoring her first Mary’s Try after countless smashing runs, Claudia GM showing her versatility from the back of the rucks and also in the open play.
A week off then Old Reds the week after, Need to prepare as Reds are flying high !
