seconds overcome cry offs

Following another spate of late cry offs the seconds bounced back from a run of two defeats to overcome Whitehall.
With Captain Tom "hands free"Selman forced into cobbling a side together whilst speeding (within the legal limit) down the M4 we eventually arrived at Whitehall with 17 players made up of 10 backs and 7 forwards.
After an opening burst of kicking-itis the side settled down and realised they were much more effective keeping ball in hand which resulted in three first half tries by Bourton, Pearce and Jack Lewis, with two converted by the impeccable Caple. It could have been three but unfortunately the corner flag intervened.
The second half started disastrously with Caple forced from the pitch after twisting a paw. Fortunately we were able to recall George Thyer who showed he had lost none of his silky skills following his sabbatical from the game last season.
We continued to dominate a spirited Whitehall side to such an extent when Neil Pearce scored his second try which in a passage of play included two interceptions by the master burglar, the Whitehall flanker threw all his toys out the pram, tore off his shirt and stormed off the pitch !
Further tries from Weeks and debutant Micky Allen plus conversions from Simon Warren saw us into a 43-0 lead only to be pulled back by a last minute try by Whitehall who to their credit never gave up.
All in all a good performance with new players added to the seconds squad which could cause problems at selection if they were all available at the same time !!!
