The home side dominated the majority of the game, their fitness and strong runners dented the Marys defensive line on a number of occasions. With the Newent number 10 and 9 being their main organisers it was clear from the start that Marys had to dig deep.

Penalty kicks from Portch allowed Marys to put some points on the board and with a revitalised late second half by the Marys pack this gave some running options for Mike and Joey Atwell to use the ball and play.

This also allowed the Marys lineout to drive 10-20 meters before big #8 Keith Wilkinson was stopped just short of the try line.
