Paddy Brennan - a tribute.

The club has received the sad news that Paddy Brennan passed away on Sunday 18th February.
Paddy was a core member of St Marys who came from the St Thomas Moore School at the same time as Tony White, Jerzy Eckner, Mike Brewer, and Paul Saunders. In the seniors, Paddy was initially part of a fine back row with John Spicer and Bill Hutchings before turning to hooker. In that position he excelled and was a 4-time Combination Cup winner and made several appearances for Bristol United. Paddy’s playing style was direct -he never took a backward step or shirked a tackle. The sort of player you were glad to have on your side when the going was tough.
Paddy has left his mark at the club: there are many stories to tell, but here are a few to give you an idea.
Having played a game with the firsts, the thirds were coming out for their game but were a man short. Paddy immediately volunteered and played 2 full games back-to-back.

During one game the ball from another game was kicked into the in-goal area of our opposition. Paddy saw this and touched down claiming the score.

During his stints helping behind the bar, for every item that you bought, Paddy charged £1 – a pint, a half, crisps, coffee. It was easier for Paddy to add up. No one argued with him.

Our condolences go to his wife and family.
