Having not played for over two months, Mary's traveled down to Devizes for an eagerly awaited contest.

This game had been reduced down to 12 a side due to no front row availability for the away team. So on a glorious sunny Sunday afternoon St Mary's and Devizes took to the field.

Lack of matches and poor weather of late meant that this was gonna be a tough game for the girls after the long lay off and took almost 10 minutes or so to get on the score board to boost a little confidence. Sarah Wray scoring her first Mary's try, shortly followed by a trademark Katie Sully pick up from the base of the scrum to run in from 20 meters. Laura Rugman converting one.

Mary's always looking to attack where ever they were on the field, but following a dropped pass, Devizes scooped up the loose ball and out sprinted the flat footed defence to score a converted try under the posts.

Mary's kept up the attacking play through some good individual runs from Lucy Bowering, Laura Rugman and Jo Smith but again a pass didn't quite go to hand and the ball was hacked up field by Devizes and another try was scored. Moments later Sully grabbed her brace, a carbon copy of her first.

Devizes tried to disrupt the rucks and slow Mary's ball down which wasn't picked up by the referee but you can only get penalized if he see's it!

When quick ball did come Mary's looked dangerous and were soon on the score sheet again through Jo Smith who jinked her way through 3 would be tacklers to score and added the extras.

Mary's now going down the slope upped the gears and scored some great tries with almost everyone having a hand on the ball off loading and recycling quick ball for Lucy Bowering to sprint in from just outside the twenty two, to score in the corner receiving the final pass from Sarah Wray.

Jo Smith added her second moments later with some shear guts and determination not to be brought down to power over the line, Kyara Martin converted.

Back came Devizes again scoring two tries of their own to pull the stretching Mary's lead back and give themselves a fighting chance of an upset. Marys had other ideas and scored three more of their own through Laura Rugman, Bridget Sanger and finally Katie Sully completing her hat trick, Jo Smith converted one of these tries.

Back came Devizes again from the restart, regathered the ball back and advanced into the Mary's 22 and the speedy outside center scored her 4th. this was converted and finally the final whistle went.

A great game to watch for the neutral with the final score 31-53 to Mary's. All credit goes to Devizes for never getting down beat and constantly being in the game all afternoon! Well done.

A really positive response considering the length of time off and a great show of leadership and team play throughout.

Coaches player went to Bridget Sanger and Players player went to Sarah Wray.

Next up Gordano away 2nd February.
