St Mary's defeated Hornettes in a tough match to keep their unbeaten league run this season

Dues to injuries, pregnancies and other unavailability, St Mary's travelled to Weston Hornettes lacking in front row players and the game unfortunately had to be played uncontested.

St Mary's were the first team on the scoreboard when scrum half Esther Gasa Fonollosa saw a gap from the back of a ruck to score her 2nd try of the season. Hornettes were the next to score after St Mary's failed to retreat quick enough after conceding a penalty and a quick tap and go saw Hornettes break through and score to level the game 5-5. Number 8 Katie Sully scored her first try of the season after a good pick from the back of a scrum and went blind with a strong run to score in the corner but got injured in the process.

St Mary's were 10-5 up at the break but put in a better 2nd half performance despite switching various player positions around due to injuries. Katie Sully moved to outside centre and scored her 2nd of the game, despite being injured, using her pace to get around the oncoming defence to score in the left corner. St Mary's then had the chance to extend their lead with a penalty in front of the posts but unfortunately winger Laura Rugman kicked under the post. Hornettes then put on a bit of pressure in the Mary's half to try and get another score but St Mary's managed to hold them out and broke from their own 22 when from a lineout the backs played the ball to Katie Sully who through shear strength and determination managed to race the length of the pitch, fighting off the numerous defenders attempts to stop her down, to power her way through and score a well deserved hat trick.

With a great team performance 4 players of the match were awarded to Katie Sully, Esther Gasa Fonollosa, Laura Rugman and 2nd row Kayleigh Simmons. St Mary's will be pleased to have no game this weekend to allow time for their injured players to recover before getting back into action against Warminster on 13th November.
