St Mary's travelled to Chipping Sodbury hoping to start their league campaign with a win but unfortunately lost due to a few break away tries from the home side.
Mary's didn't start very well and conceded an early try after Chipping Sodbury shipped it out wide and used their pace to score under the posts which was converted. Mary's struggled to gain any territory in the oppositions half despite having a lot of possession and conceded a 2nd try shortly before half time when the scored on the blind side wing after working a overlap to go 12-0 up at the interval.
The 2nd half was a much different story and Mary's came out really well and pressurised Chipping Sodbury and got the breakthrough when Katie Sully's picked up from the back of the scrum and drove through to score to make it 12-5. Mary's fitness and organisation was much better but were frustrated with handling errors and couldn't find another breakthrough. Unfortunately Chipping Sodbury scored another try to seal their victory after intercepting a Mary's pass and the winger had the pace to finish it off.
Overall Mary's were frustrated with the result but put in a good performance in the 2nd half and were unlucky not to have won but come away with a bonus point for losing within 15 points.
