An early season defeat for The Saints as last season’s form returns.

Before we go upsetting anyone, on behalf of the skittles team I would like to wish our Ladies and Girls skittles teams all the best of luck for the season, we’ll enjoy visiting your website!

Anyway back to business, following our last run out, which was the end of season curry night, the team have not picked up a ball and that was clear on our first game of the season.

A much depleted squad ventured to Henbury SC to take on the Ink Spots, the good news is that there will be plenty of fines for those team members who did not make the trip.....more on that later.

Down to action, Skipper Mr A W Weare Esq. selected the father son partnership of John ‘The Pipe’ Gallagher and Matt ‘ The Hour’ Gallagher to kick of the season. The father son team pushed their opposite numbers to the max and returned an opening stand of 58 a lead of 5, with The Pipe getting the first ‘Clap’ of the season.

So next up was Phelper (TWCWEH III) and Brov Phil, the Ink Spots noticed our week link and offered to even things up by putting a woman on against TWCWEH III, but she was far too good for him! Phil continued to pull pins on his man, but TWCWEH III started with a 1,3 combo, then from nowhere 6 and 7, talk of a change in form (swanking) was all too soon as he finished off with the season’s first duck, plus he did manage a number of gutter balls in this fine performance! The leg scored 48, with TWCWEH III recording a match low of 20, his lady partner scoring 29!

So from a lead of 5 the final pair of Neddy and Billy (both sporting bad backs) had 8 pins to pull back. This was a bridge too far for the final pair, who at times could hardly bend down to pick up the balls. Neddy liking to keep the score board symmetrical started 2,5,2,5 but in the end a score of 24 was a long way off his man. Billy started strong with a 6,5,4 combo before he changed his speed and ended up with a 26, leaving The Saints 12 adrift with the final score of 156 vs. 168.

Following a quick team debrief the side in a 5 to 1 vote laid the blame at Phleper’s feet, after a score of just 20 (seasons low) with a duck (first of the season) it was clear that this cost The Saints a vital away win.

Mr A W Weare Esq. Then held court as the first fines of the season were collected;

Neddy – 20p for being late
James Gallagher (a spectator) – 50p for using his mobile phone
The Hour – 50p for using his mobile phone (that’s the first 20 minutes of the hour!)
Mr A W Weare Esq. – 50p for using his mobile phone
Jon Tucket – 20p incitement for calling Mr A W Weare Esq. (carried forward)
TWCWEH III – Stating the obvious (‘I’ve only got 2 balls’) – 20p + Swanking – 20p + 3 Gutter balls - £.120 + Duck £1 = £2.60

When all the match fees and fines were taken a fine pot of £17.20 was collect, I’m afraid that’s not enough to feed Horse Head!

A change in the non attendance fine was proposed by Neddy and seconded by TWCWEH III, the fine is now increased to 50p. This is applicable to all signed on players – This is your warning!

Mr A W Weare Esq. appointed Neddy as team secretary, you will now find all fixtures on the website.

Finally a decision was made to make all Friday night fixtures a compulsory curry night and Phelper will drive the Venga Bus.

Coming Up.

Watch out for the first Ladies skittles fixtures.

Talk of a new skittles coach...he’s never played but!!!!!

We take a closer look at the clubs other website.
