Help required to assist with the club shop on Wednesdays & Sundays, we require one person from each age group to spend a little time in the shop. Please see coaches or age group rep.
U6s Coaches for next Season, dont just sit back and watch, get involed its fun and rewarding, at the moment the age group next year will not have any U6s coaches.
Only children aged 6 or over can play in festivals, and to do so, all children need to be registered with both the club and the RFU. To register your child please see Kath McWhinnie, in the club house. If your child is participating in training please get them registered, if not registered with both club and RFU, the children will not be insured. You will need 3 passport photographs.
We currently have 34 children registered in the U7's. This is a large number of children and with ages varying between 4 and 7, I'm sure you will agree that a small gap at this age results in a wide range of abilities.
As coaches the number one responsibility is safety, and because of this, the younger children will not be able to participate in games. Whilst they are welcome to participate in training as a group, in the future we would like to separate the children in to three age groups for individual activities. At some stages during a training we will have 3 groups u5s, u6s and u7s. the u7s will be made up of year 2 children, u6s will be made up of year 1 children and u5s will be less than year 1.To accommodate this we would appreciate help with the under 5s, However, if no help is forthcoming then we may have to take the stance of no under 5s in the squad. The u7s will have a different team strip so as to distinguish between u6s and u7s
Throwing & Catching is basic skill needed for rugby ! Please spend a few minutes during the week, (even indoors if necessary) with your child to improve their co-ordination. Dropped and badly thrown balls break down the whole momentum in training.- Many Thanks
Leave an undated cheque for £30 and we will give you one of the new club shirts.
Players will now receive a certificate for Player of The Day, Player of The Day is not about performance but about attitude, effort and behaviour

7th Of Aprill

What can we say other than WOW, good sesion guys really good attacking, defending, passing, tagging, supporting and running, your playing rugby now, and as a TEAM.
Dursley
9th March
U6's
Watching the team play is enjoyable, all of the passing and catching practice has paid off, the passing improves with every game along with the catching. I (Paul) must apologise for the hard refereeing of the game towards St Marys and being lenient towards Dursley, but with the festival coming up and those players selected from the u6s to play you need to get use to harder refereeing. The game was good today guys & girls with a narrow win for St Marys, we saw some great individual performances that saw some great running from Jack, Scott and Ethan. Some great tagging from Nick & Callum. Player of the Day Will L. Well Done Everybody
U7's
Lucky with the weather in view of what was forecasted, it turned out to be a good morning, with 21 players in total.
Dursley brought about 12 U7's so we managed to play two 20 minute games, rotating the teams at half time.
Playing our 'Festival 1' team to begin with we soon built up a lead with 3 good early breaks from Ollie J.
We defended excellently with quick tagging from Jamie & Dominic in the middle, supported by Oliver , Tim and Emilio beside them. When in possesion, there was good support and speed from Molly and Rhianne on the wings.
We were 4-1 up at the break with another try from Emilio, and then introduced John, Sam & Matthew before holding out for a 4-3 win
In the second game we were trailing 4 - 1 at half time. We then mixed things up a bit and saw good tries from Molly and Rhaine in the corners with Oliver S and Tim also going over. With some good defensive work (and a few blatent blocks from Ollie before he was withdrawn) we narrowly came back and held out for a 6-5 win.
There was some excellent play with voluntary passing occasionally. Formation is starting to show, and with good strength right across the pitch we are starting to look a formidable side ahead of the Festival next weekend.
Well done to all involved..
Man of the match: - no individuals ....The whole team, which is great !
24th of Feb - What a great day with some great individual and team performances on show, the first game was lost narrowly by one try the second game was narrowly won by one try, but it was great to see the teams running, The quality of the passing has improved no end over the last weeks and it was evident in the games today, with some players taking the ball at pace, it just goes to show the ground that can be made if the player being tackled can pass to another player who is in space. The passing passing move was between Jack P and Dominic, just a shame Dominic was running so fast that he lost his footing. The tagging was great today, and if we were playing to a tag count we would have seen a lot of turnovers in favour of St Marys. Some things we need to work on in training is try scoring, we need to place the ball down over the line, and ensure it is placed on the ground with pressure. great performance today team with players of the day being Dominic and Jack G.
Oh and finally, what sort of U6s coaches would we be if we did not mention the result on Sunday when the U6s played U7s, it was a very close well played game by both teams, with U6s narrowly winning. U7s fancy a rematch ??
17th of Feb -
Gordano Home
Today we had a turn out of only ten U7/Yr2 children, despite the glorious sunshine. However this did not stop us showing our supremacy against who Gordano turned out with 16 youngsters, So whilst they fielded two teams of 8, we jiggled our 10 around and slipped in a few U6’s for the second game.
Game 1
The first game we won convincingly by 9 tries to 3, As a team, we were very strong in defence with lots of quick tagging by Jamie, Tim & Oliver S, which drove Gordano back either into touch, or back into their own half where we were able to win turnovers from their mistakes, with Emilio quick to seize the loose balls. Ollie J was in fine form, making some great runs from deep whilst regularly side-stepping half of the opposition at once, to gain several tries. Molly was always running in support of the ball and made an excellent break herself, being stopped just paces short of the line for our support to go over, whilst Archie supported the other wing, with Sam or Charlie running inside them
Game 2
We introduced Jack G, Will, Nicholas and Callum from the U6’s against the next Gordano team, and inspired by the excellent performance from the seniors in the first game, they blended in unnoticed. We soon went a couple of tries up and again held them out with successive quick tagging and a couple of ‘last-man tackles’ from Ollie J at the back. Tries came from Jamie, Molly, Ollie and an excellent lightening solo run from Jack. We ended winning convincingly by 6 – 3, and even showed a few spells of voluntary passing in the midfield!
Well done to all of you. A great display of teamwork today !
Player of the Day: Molly for excellent support running, great speed for her try and being an ‘un-sung’ hero all morning.
Close Second: Ollie J, for excellent runs, solid defensive play and a much improved attitude.
U7’s Jamie, Tim, Emilio, Archie, Ollie J, Molly, Francesca, Oliver S, Sam & Charlie
U6’s Will, Jack, Callum R, Nicholas

Training
We had a good training session, the passing is coming on leaps and bounds, just try to use it in the game, a good pass on the field is just as good to see as a great run, and we saw two great runs from Dominic last night (perhaps he should show England how its done). Bull Dog was fun with some great diving from Ollie (perhaps you should play Football). Bull Dog Winners Jack P and Ethan G
10th of Feb -
Clifton
We had another session of passing today, and we are getting there, in order to develop your skills further it would be good to see you all on a regular basis. The coaches are desperately trying to get the children to pass the ball just before getting tagged and bringing the game to a stand-still. Please bare with us over the coming weeks !!
Match Report
U6s
Great day against Clifton winning two games 7 - 4 and 6 - 4, we need to start playing more as a team and stop the individual running, as great as it is too see, it would be even better to see some great passing amongst players on the pitch, we know you can all run, we know you can all tag, so show us how you can all pass.
U7s
Clifton proposed that we played all eleven against their eleven, rather than having substitutes. Whilst this gave everyone a game, it didn’t work too well on a small pitch ! However, we gave it a go and all players were keen to get involved in the action, ( usually the same action!) which in turn prevented anyone from getting the ball and running in space and a decent game developing. Well done to Billy for his enthusiasm and Jamie for always being in there – You’ll make a great forward one day!
6th of Feb
Training
All we can do is apologise for the lack of lighting, we cant apologise for the weather, we had an hour of passing and more passing and we will have some more to come until we get the hang of it, Bridgend did so well because of the passing and we know the team can do it also, so come on show us next Wednesday how well you can pass the ball
30th of January -
Training
Training today was good guys, one thing you need to remember is rugby is a team sport, some of the exercises we practiced today are all around working as a team, we must focus on working together.

Match Report
U6s
What a great performance team, we have had a superb month with the turning point being the new year, you are all keeping the high standards you set since Keynsham, and everybody on the touch line was saying "how well you are doing". The best form of flattery is from the visiting coaches, the Cirencester coach told us what a good team you are, and its great to hear visiting coaches talk like this, YOU should feel very proud of yourselves, I know all of the coaches are.
The game today was great, I am not going to mention the winning (well maybe once, 7 - 1), but the highlight for me is watching you play, Jacks G and P with some storming runs, Scott, Ethan, Nicolas with some great tagging, William, Elliot and Jamie with some great support. The Team has the right attitude, you listen to what you are being asked to do, and you do it very well. I have not seen another team line up on turnovers as well as St Marys 6s, the discipline on the pitch is second to none, and if we can keep this going on in the future we cant go wrong. Finally and most importantly everybody on the pitch looks happy to be there, the coaches are happy and i hope the parents are happy.
U6s Player of the Day – Jack G for a superb performance running and scoring tries whilst using two hands!, well done Jack keep it up.
U7s
A good effort against Cirencester saw the U’7s lose their first game following end to end rugby, by a narrow margin of 6 tries to 5. Great running from Molly, Jamie and Sam gave us the tries, but with a dodgy refereeing (Lawrence!), unfortunately it wasn’t enough.
During the second game we were much more convincing, great runs again by Jamie, with good follow up support by Tyler and Tim, saw us edge ahead.Despite some excellent last ditch tackling, Cirencester started to pull back, but we comfortably won by 5 tries to 3. Good tagging from Dominic & Jamie up front and Ollie in the full back role, together with good work from Sam, Molly, and John, saw us through. Well done all of you. Hopefully if the weather now improves and we can get some regularity back in the training, the only way is UP !
U7s Player of the Day – Big Jamie, for excellent running and tries, (despite a bit of physical contact from the other side). Well-done Jamie!
20th of January - Wells Away
Marys Player Joins Wells click on picture for more pictures of Sunday
Some fantastic rugby was on display today, well done all of you, the attacking play was great, the defending play was great and the team work was awesome, two convincing wins against Wells. it was a difficult decision today for player of the day, so we had three, but it was almost all of you, Players of the day to Jack P, Elliot, and Sam.
Great play today team lets keep it up.
First Game 3 - 7
Second Game 2 - 7

Best Runner: Rhianne O
18th November - Saracens
What a cold morning probably the coldest yet I hope it did'nt put too many of you off.
Anyway we arrived at Saracens only to be told they do not run an Under 7's so seeing as they don't start until 10:30am
we carried on with an Under 8' Versus the Under 7's which to my surprise we played exceptionly well and if I am not mistaken we WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Bring on the under 9's) Are support play was far better than it had been, Probably down to no one wanted to stay still as it was so bitterly cold.
Best Tagger: Ethan P
Best Runner: Jamie C
14th November - Training
It was a very good EFFORT by everybody who attended and thanks to Neil (Amelio's Dad) for getting the ball rolling when at 6:30 there was'nt a coach in sight(our apologies).
The format I think worked well (Yr 2's splitting off with some Yr 2 new starts joining the more experienced Yr 1's) it's better than organised chaos which is what we have been seeing as of late!
Let's keep it up!
11th November - Home to Cleve
Thank you to all those parents & children who observed the 2 minutes silence today. We thought this would be a good thing for the children to do and they all behaved impeccably. Spooky how the birds suddenly started singing just after the silence fell and then the sun came out..
Under 7’s (Yr2’s)
Well done to all of those who played against Cleve today. We put out a fairly strong team first game and following a well fought come-back from 3-1 down, we eventually drew 3-3 In subsequent games we put out sides of mixed ability to give all those qualifying players a game and managed to win those also.
Finally we asked Cleve to put out their strongest team for a ‘real’ match finale… St Mary’s won this comfortably 3-1 with excellent tries from Rhianne and Tyler(2). Superb support running from Molly, Great tagging from Dominic, Jamie & Ethan P with some game saving tackles tagging from Ollie at the back !
The medal presentation was to the winning Squad who played at the Keynsham festival. - We've only just received these medals from Keynsham RFC. (Squad: Oliver, Rhianne, John, Molly, Tyler, Ethan, Jamie, Dominic, Matthew), (Archie, see Alan for your medal)
4th of November
Wow what a lot of players turned up this weekend, great to see and should be good for the future of the club. We started with the usual warm-up and then some group activities.
A good session today guys and girls, hopefully you all enjoyed. Tagging and Running Practice worked well today, with some good running and tagging on display. we tried to get the taggers working together, and I believe we had the starts of some good team work (Remember Tags and Players in touch result in a Turnover) Well Done.
Micros - Parents
It was noticed on Sunday that some children are not ready for the game at the end of training amongst the micros. It is also evident that not all children are enjoying themselves, this could lead to children not wanting to partake in the future either because they are bored or they feel that they can not play. Because of this it would be appreciated if parents of the younger children would take them to one side and practice further ball handling and movement skills with those children as a group (also remember that we will need NEW COACHES for the Micros next year, could be good experience), This is for Both safety and enjoyment reasons. Lets Keep Rugby FUN

Minis - Training
I will apologies now (Kevin) for my lack of enthusiasm on Sunday but I did have a ROARING Toothache and a belter of an Hangover! So thanks to Alan who dealt with the Under 7's extremley well. What I did pick up on was that some of the Year 2 Players do need some extra training as far as throwing and catching is concerned and this can be done at Home so come on parents get your coaching hats on and spend some time on coaching those future Stars!
However the basics of Tag Rugby will be taught as an on job training kind of style, these kids pick things up really quickly anyway.
The stars of training were: Tyler G and Molly B
Attendees: Oliver J, Rhianne O, Molly B, Billy H, Ethan P, Tyler G, Dominic B, Jamie C, Harvey G, John R, Tim C, Amelio L & Archie K
28th October Yatton Away
Small turnout for the team today, we played 3 games against Yatton drawing 4 - 4 in the first, winning the second 5 - 2 and losing the third 4 - 5. everybody played well today with some great running and more importantly great tagging, finished with some really dodgy refereeing.
Some of you players are losing concentration and questioning decisions, please keep focused on the game or training, and never question the decision (even if it is the wrong one). please listen when being spoken to, remember when you play around you are stopping us from playing rugby.
