2007-2008 Season Below
Away to Burnham on Sea
Nice to see a full turn out of players today and its great to have rolling Subs.
Both teams arrived today looking for a win and unfortunately it was not us.
We were all over the pitch today, just not in our correct positions.
Several times we had Burnham under pressure but we just could not get 2nd or 3rd phase ball as there was no support play.
The second ½ saw everyone waking up and suddenly remembering what they should be doing and that they can tackle and tackle well.
I think special praise goes today to Chantelle for a great first game with some great tackles and Sarah for showing others what can be done with some determination, good tackles and a great try.
Well done to all and thanks To Burnham

Girls Training 10.00 to 12.00 on Sundays, 6.45 til 8 on Weds during the season
Mary's Trianguler Sherbourne and Oakmeadians.

Two great games played against Sherborne and Oakmeadians, Both teams had lots of pace which we found difficult to counter but I feel a great game was had by all.
Alice T was going to be girl of the match with some outstanding displays of tackling skills, and then it was going to Alice L for that great 50 meter run and then the great try that followed shortly after. Then Rosa started putting in some great performances followed by the rest of you.
So no girl of the match today as you all deserved it. Angela and Sarah I thought done well seeing as some of the opposition were twice as tall but the effort you put in was still 100%.
Support play, Tackling and dealing with the ball on the floor was lacking a bit today but this will come with time.
I was very pleased with the effort from all of you today and you can all stand proud of fact that even when loosing you still kept your heads up and played as a TEAM
Thanks to Sherborne and Oakmeadians for the two games and parents for bring the girls down.
Mary’s v Trowbridge Away

Trowbridge Girls certainly had the pace and the skills today and exploited our weakest areas.
That said we put up a brave fight and even the Trowbridge coaches said the game was not as easy as they expected.
Again our forwards were working well and doing an excellent job stopping Trowbridge from working the ball through the middle, but Trowbridge were good at getting the ball wide to be taken at pace from depth and this always enabled them to cross the game line.
Zetta was girl of the match showing plenty of confidence in picking up the ball and driving forward.
Alice must have taken inspiration from watching Jamie Noon’s tackle during the England France game and thought she could do better. With Trowbridge coming down the wing at speed and an empty space in front of them, Alice stepped up to the mark and made a great tackle bundling the ball carrier into touch and scattering spectators everywhere.
Thanks to Trowbridge for a well spirited match. Girls or Ladies if your are interested in learning more about rugby and giving it a go contact anyone of us for more information or Jo Powell for the ladies section

Home game Mary's Girls 26 : 10 Newport HSOB
Difficult to do this match report as it was a fast paced game between St Mary’s and Newport HSOB, Firstly thanks to Dan Brooker for refereeing the game and thanks to Stacey from the Ladies team for helping out with some training and lots of encouragement. -025.jpg)
Alice No.2 found her confidence today and played a very good game, Ellie’s new hair cut has changed her in to a possessed player like we know she can be. Unlucky Shauna on your near try, a foot just went into touch as the ball was going down.
Well done Emma, Beck’s and Alice No.1 for some great tries and Zoë’s conversions. I think you all played very well today and from the feedback I was getting on the pitch you all wished the game could of gone on for another 20 minutes as you were all enjoying the game.
To be fair to Newport there were a few occasions that I thought they were going to get ahead and win the day especial from the scrums they had some good set pieces and it took some good defence teamwork from Mary’s to keep them out and by no means was this an easy win.
What we done correct today was you all played as a team and looked for opportunities to pass the ball and kept looking for breaks in the Newport defence and getting the ball to a player with space so they could run with the ball.
Apart from when the 3 try scorers just outran everyone with some great turns of speed the support play was great, every time there was a break down in play there was 2 or 3 players in support and nobody was getting sucked in. Captain for today was Amy.
Thanks to Newport for a great and entertaining game.

North Dorset travelled to us for a rematch, yet again North Dorset proved why they are an unbeaten team, This team is a good bench mark for us to
set our standards to. Although we did start to win at some of the rucks and mauls we just did not make good use of the ball once we had it. We started to bunch up and kept trying to take it through the middle instead of keeping our distance and lines so the ball could be passed out, this would of brought more of our backs into play and use some space, North Dorset are just to strong a team to run through.
That said North Dorset started to find us that bit harder to charge through and changed their game plan to passing and made good use of their backs.
It was a good game to watch and for the first time we had subs, never been known before so a welcome to Alice and Rosa on their first game and hope you both enjoyed the game, from my point of view I think you both done well. Almost forgot Alice No.1: some great tackles today well done.
Nice Picture from Ellie's Dad, Jim. Who has eyes on the ball then?
Thanks again to Courtney for refereeing the game and thanks to North Dorset for a great game.

Twas a cold Sunday afternoon but what a cracking game for both teams. It was fast moving play from one end of the pitch to the other with both teams defending well and getting turnover ball to take it back again. Cirencester got the first try of the game. This was followed shortly by a nice run from Emma N. with Angelia in support for the first St Mary’s try.
It was a pleasure to watch this game and some fantastic rugby was played, Mary’s tackled well, and some good vision and defensive kicking kept us out of trouble for a short while. It was Cirencester’s experience that over took us in the end with some good handling skills for them to run a few more try’s in. Emma N. made a great run from about 60 yards out to score our second try.
The coaching team could not fault the play today. The team played fantastic and everyone should be proud. If anything or anybody was to be singled out it would not be for criticism it would be for praise, so here goes, Sarah well done and great stuff on your first game, Sophie great tackles, Zetta great courage shown for getting it and picking up the ball and then doing something with it. Emma N. and Angelia good support and team work as that’s what got the try’s. Amy, Abi, Beks, Shauna and Emma E. great tackles. Alice seamed to be all over the pitch and making tackles as I know she can, Zoë good vision looking for space and good territory gaining kicks.
Thanks To Courtney for refereeing the game and thanks to Cirencester for a game played in good spirit.
WELL DONE TO ALL
Player of the match for me would have to go to Emma N. Just for that Run and try.
Good day out to North Dorset thanks to all that showed in these wet and windy conditions, First half it seemed like we were lacking in confidence and try after try was being ran straight through us. Second half was much better as our confidence grew and although we lost i felt everyone of you put 100% effort in. Highlites of the game was watching what you had practiced in training coming into play during the game.
Abi stepping over and protecting the ball, Zetta getting stuck in and getting the ball out, Sophie with a nice run down the pitch Alana, Becs and the two Emma's making tackle after tackle. Shauna's sprint to secure the ball and Ellie gaining confidence minute by minute was great to see. Our one and only down fall on the day which is what let us down is we did not pass the ball out enough. North Dorset are to good strong team to be able to run through so the ball needed to get down the line quicker. The times that we did do this we made good ground.
Well done to all lets look forward to the rematch.
St. Mary's Under 15s Girls 35 : 40 Newport HSOB
St. Mary's Under 18s Girls 19 : 25 Newport HSOB
Great game today away to Newport HSOB Well done to all the girls, Two very close fought matchs, under 15's were leading 25 : 10 in the first half of the game and let it slip away in the second half, fitness started to let us down and then we were slow to the breakdowns.
From what I have seen today the only thing we need to work on at the moment is confidence and experience because you all showed today that you have the courage and determination to keep going, not once did anyone give up and for that you all must be commended. Player of the match for U15's goes to Alana and Abi for the U18's.
Angelia and Jodie well done today on your first game
Thanks must go to Newport for the loan of some players and the way that todays games went, Very good sportsmanship from players, coaches, supporters and the Ref's.

2006/2007 Season
Well what a game Taunton <<< Click here It was going to be a tough day with the the ground being so hard some injuries were to be expected but the day went well
Mary's started off poor and were not sure how to take the Fillies from Taunton as they looked a well drilled team. Taunton were winning scrums, Tackling well and just stealing the ball off us.
Once things settled down St Mary’s Girls found their feet and were back into the game. It was not long before the tries started to follow and the confidence grew for the St Mary’s girls, we then started to push the Taunton Fillies off the ball winning the scrums as well as the ruck’s and mauls.
Ellie who has been stand offish all season played like she has never done before and was straight in for the ball when ever the opportunities arose and from one of these times she broke free and scored a try. (Well done)
Alice also found her confidence today and found she could run fast and tackle well and made some blinding runs down the wings.
Some good tackles and defence work from all the SMOB Girls forced Taunton to work extra hard just for them to try and keep the ball, with some well ran in try’s from Emma and the better support play Mary’s Girls Win the day
Mary’s 32 – Taunton 19
P.S. Not sure who scored the other try's as I was to excited and dancing around at the time.
Let me Know who it was, (edit) It was Zoe
SMOB Girls 12 - Cirencester 12
Cirencester <<< Click here
A well evenly matched game to day, Thanks to Cirencester a great day. The Ref and I carried out a pre-game pitch inspection and found in place's growing through the mud was Grass, So the Girls had to be wary about tripping over this.
Mary's started well and put pressure on right from the start, before long with some good mauling and passing, the ball broke free to Becks who then passed to Emma who made a nice driving run to score a try. From a line out ball came the second try, The Forwards stole the ball passed it out to Becks to make a run and pop passed it to Emma for the second try.
Cirencester had a nice try from a 5m scrum where they worked the ball across the pitch and went through our gaps. With the game at 12 - 7 to us and In the dying seconds of the game Cirencester broke through to make a blinding run down the left wing to score a well deserved try but were unlucky to convert so the game ended in a well deserved draw.
Highlights of the day was some of the tackles looking like a catch the greasy pig competition with players sliding all over the place, Not sure if it was Amy or Hayley who made the tackle but one Cirencester player slid on for another 6/8 feet before they stopped. The biggest highlight was Annabelle's Try saving tackle where Cirencester caught us on the back foot and she ran from the right wing to the left to make a splended tackle.
WELL DONE TO ALL (Pictures to follow, Parents if you have any of the mud slide please send them to me)

SMOB Girls 10 - Cinderford 15
Cinderford <<< Click here
Great game against Cinderford We played with 2 players down for most the first half and 1 down for the second half. A great effort was put in by all the girls, Fitness played a key part to todays game and we pulled through.
Some good defence work from all the girls although tackling still needs some practice.
Good work by Amy on her first try and well done to Shauna who gets player of the match and for seting up the second try. Captain for today was Zoe
Thanks to Cinderford for the Hospitality and the supporters
