Taunton 15 - St Mary's Old Boys 10

We knew from the start this was going to be a very tough game, we knew Taunton had a strong pack and an experienced set of backs. However, we knew we had an excellent side out and an excellent line up of subs all hungry to get on the pitch.

In the first 10 mins of play it was very even, it was very clear both sides were up for the challenge and most of the play was camped out in the middle of the pitch. Our forwards rucking and scrumaging was again outstanding considering we were the smaller pack. Annie took a few of Tauntons balls in the scrum and a few of the oppositions balls in the line outs were won by Lisa.

As the game went on Mary's concentration began to slip and we left gaps in our defense which allowed Taunton to score a try. Taunton then carried on applying pressure on our backs which resulted in a few dropped balls and some spoiled moves. We also gave away a penalty under the posts which allowed Taunton to punish us by kicking for 3 points.

However, it didn't take long for the backs to realize what was going wrong and step up a gear and start playing the way they train. There were some excellent tackles from the backs causing lots of pressure on Taunton and when we started to get the ball out to the wingers and no. 15 we proved we had some good moves. This was rewarded by 2 well deserved tries, first one by full back Widget who set off from the half way line with Taunton unable to catch her. Second was by winger Gabbi our top try scorer! showing her speed & quick thinking.

Unfortunately all our hard work didn't result in a win, Taunton scored 2 tries, a conversion and a penalty kick. It was though a very good game for both teams, displaying lot's of hard work, guts and determination and we can come away from this game with lots to work on in training but overall a big smile on our faces.. Well done girls!
