Our long
awaited friendly eventually kicked off slightly late due to a certain
captain carrying the shirts getting lost several times! It was perfect
conditions to play all our new players that we have recently acquired,
none of who looked like they weren’t experienced players!
It was great to see that MSN had also acquired a few stronger players
(at the beginning of the season MSN’s pack made our backs
look over fed!). Throughout
the four quarters MSN defended with bravery & passion and punished
us when we made mistakes, a sloppy pass was intercepted by MSN’s
no. 10 who took full advantage of the interception and scored their
only try, which was also converted.
Our strength,
speed and commitment at recent training sessions stamped our authority
on the match. Our line outs – a mixture of experienced forwards
and our very talented new jumper Lisa (who scored our 4th try),
couldn’t do any wrong and dominated the line outs, there were
only a handful of MSN’s throw ins that we didn’t steal!
Our scrums
were solid and gave our new prop Dee a chance to shine, along with
new flanker Julia. Our powerhouse of a no.8 Rach O’Neill was
the icing on the cake, picking up from the back of the scrum and
galloping off at every opportunity! (Rach, 3 tries is a bit poor,
try harder next time!)
Our mauls were strong and we managed to get good ball retention
through rucking, although this was the weakest aspect of our game
on Sunday.
Now onto
our backs, an absolutely fantastic display of speed, skill and enthusiasm.
Starting with Emily our trainee scrum half that can pass a ball
like a rocket! Then our level headed no.10 Karen, who can catch
off her shoe laces, our flying centre’s Becky who runs like
the wind! and Sarah with her strong tackling! Gabbi our trainee
full back displayed her great kicking skills.
Then there’s Lou our new winger, who after only a few training
sessions scored her first try and displayed great awareness for
the game and not least our other winger Suzie who looked like she’d
been playing for years! – She took the ball at place, ran
perfect angles, sought out the gaps and tackled like a demon! A
star in the making! Our backs weren’t perfect, their were
a few handling errors, but some how everytime this happened they
turned it into something positive -a really positive display of
rugby skills.
On the whole a great day for both teams, Thank you to Sammy, Sarah,
Gabbi & Jo Bosch (who really put a lot of pressure on us with
her famous ‘ Bosch Style ‘ tackles and her dangerous
attacking runs) for playing for the opposition. Thanks also to MSN
for the opportunity to show off our new talent and letting them
gain experience. A massive well done to you all.
