St Mary's
Old Boys Ladies were formed in 1997, we were then playing against
the likes of : Avonmouth, Chew Valley Cats, Gordano & Clifton
2's. We still have one of our original players playing for us, Helen
Nicholson.. how's that for commitment!
Each year
since then our team has gone from strength to strength, not only
in the number of players, but the achievements we have gained over
the years.
We play in
the South West League & have twice gained promotion, last season
being our most successful. We now play in South West 1 Division
which is a big leap up for SMOB Ladies, but a great opportunity
for us to play against more experienced teams & develop even
more as a team.
We are a
very diverse collection of ladies of all abilities & from various
backgrounds. We pride ourselves on being a very close & friendly
team.
For anyone
considering taking up rugby, if you enjoy a physical & mental
challenge, enjoy meeting people, a great social life, then its the
game for you!
Note from
our Captain - Tracey
Garrett
I've gained
so much over the years from playing rugby. I've met some amazing
people, had many great experiences & been to some fab places
( Dublin, Newcastle etc. to magnificent Minehead! ).
I've gained
many skills such as, team work, patience, understanding & improved
my communication skills. Since being captain this has strengthened
& tested these skills - especially patience!!.
Rugby has
given me a great sense of achievement & lot's of confidence
- there's nothing better than putting in a great tackle or running
through the opposition, even more so when you have the support of
a great team behind you.
